Detection is a lot easier if you play the game yourself. However with a few simple things this is also "easy" if you didn't play it.
Step 1:
Use the FogDetectr
Copy the detector to your warcraft 3 folder (Check the Read Me.txt in the folder) Find the replay you want to check and put it in replays - (U usually delete all my replays if i have any. Just to filter out easily which one i want to watch in-game.)
Step 2:
Load the game. Select the replay. And run it at 8x speed to the end. Now if you are using the one with .log bultin, go make some coffee or something. Since you don't need to write anything, the script does that for you.If you are using the one without you need to sit on your ass and write down when it displays exp : "46:26 |cFFFFFF00~Prince_Irvin-| (Ezalor)|r clicked Dwarven Sniper".
Step 3:
Once the replay have finished, you should have a logfile named "foglog.txt" - and be fresh for the next steps since you got your coffee. This is the step i usually get bored with. If the logfile contains a lot of data this will take ages. However if it only displays a few 5-10 this should be cake.
Start with the first click - If this click happens before 2:35 you it's likely a hacker. Since creep spawn haven't happend yet. However if people are just roaming around forest it could just be a delayed one.
Anyway. Start the replay again, and look at the situation. - Looking once might not be enough so you might want to hit "restart" a few times. Make sure the selection is VALID. Meaning, it's not a selection of a hero moving into fog, and then the supposed click happens. This is a bug. So be sure to check for this. 90% of the fog-clicks are bugs because of this.
If the selection happens on an invisible unit after 2 sec of him turning invisible it's likely a fog-click (maphack). Then again it MIGHT just to be extreme lag. - Most Asians users got high pings (average of 150ms) In short this would be 0.13 sec. So it's not that much, but it's there. Also the server might be desyncing or losing packets, whatever the reason; count this in as well.
If a selection on an invis hero happens you will NOT see a red ring, or a green or whatever you expect.
Step 4:
DOUBLE CHECKING. - You need to be 100% sure, before you go accusing someone of Maphacking. So PLEASE recheck. Until you are 100% sure, and totally convinced.
Step 5:
If there are no fog-clicks - This is where you should start instead of going to step 3.
Repetition of "lucky" incidents. Too much luck isn't called luck it's called "hacking".
Unjustified actions. Is the person running away from invisible enemies when he's creeping or just camping (or just following them) - Using spells into fog etc.
Runechecks. Is he emptying his bottle before going to runes, without vision at first? - Is he picking runes as he knows it's there.
Most unskilled players are extremely cautiousness throughout the game, in every game. So don'tthink everybody is cheating just because they are avoiding ganks, etc.
(Remember even though you did a fog-click test, you should still see at the players selections. This can also be an indicator if a player is hacking. Most hackers tend focus more on enemy' heroes rather than they're own - WHY?> Simple they want to know the CD's of they're enemy's).
One of the most common indicators is; Teleporting away from incoming ganks. - Running to towers to get invis detection and ranged defense - Running in circles in wood to avoid enemy line of sight.
There are a lot of topics on the internet regarding checking for maphacks in DotA and a lot better than this guide. So i suggest you do a simple Google search. "Credit to ENT Gaming"
